Following the 2008 economic crisis, several governments around the world adopted action plans to promote the development of a green economy and thus redefine the balance to be achieved between environmental protection and economic development. Conversely, Canada is relying more than ever on the exploitation and export of its natural resources, particularly fossil fuels, and has abandoned international efforts to fight climate change by withdrawing from the Kyoto Protocol. What should Canada do to reconcile the imperatives of economic growth with the need to fight climate change and protect the environment?
